About us

Phyto Pro was born of our search for a clean, healing protein to use with clients in our integrated medicine practice in Cape Town, South Africa.

We asked our clients to leave animal food products behind because of the antibiotic, heavy metal and hormonal contaminants contained in meat and whey, and step away from rice and soy protein because of the anti-nutrients, digestion-inhibitors and xenoestrogens contained therein. But this left a huge protein gap – protein is necessary for both growth and healing.

In stepped Pea Protein Isolate

Pea Protein Isolate ticked all the right boxes – cost-effective, alkalising and non-inflammatory, versatile, non-GMO, grown in an environmentally-friendly manner and processed only with water:

Plant protein versus animal protein

Why Plant Based?

Plant-based diets are defined by what they add in, and not by what they leave out, as in the case of vegan and vegetarian diets.

A plant-based diet advocates for the inclusion of more vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts and seeds, as opposed to animal products and processed foods.

100g beef steak provides you with only ± 13g of usable protein.

100g of pea protein isolate gives you access to 85-88g of usable protein.

Why pea protein?

Better value, better health, better waistline

  • Pea Protein is a complete protein, i.e. it contains all essential amino acids.
  • It contains a high proportion of protein per gram (85-88%).
  • It displays improved digestibility and assimilation compared to other alternatives.
  • It is one of the few alkalising proteins on the market.
  • It provides all of the amino acids found in animal protein but without the costs to the environment or your health.

Pea Protein Isolate is one of the few available alkalising proteins.

Pea Protein Isolate is easily digestible and has a high absorbability factor.

Pea Protein has a lower allergen potential compared to other protein sources.

How do we get protein from peas?

Phyto Pro Plant-Based Clean Protein

why phyto pro?

Our mission is to improve the health of humans, animals and the environment with plant-based protein.

While the individual amino acid percentages may differ between plant and animal protein, pea protein is very comparable to whey and offers similar muscle-building benefits to those who incorporate it into their diet regularly. However, Phyto Pro Pea Protein is superior to whey in that Phyto Pro is a clean protein:

It is processed without the use of chemicals, whereas whey is often contaminated with toxic heavy metals.

Phyto Pro Pea Protein is an alkalising protein whereas whey is an acidifying protein – alkalising foods support healing and recovery whereas acidifying foods encourage disease and inflammation.

Lastly, Phyto Pro is free of the antibiotics and hormones given to dairy cows to increase milk and subsequent whey production. These nasty drugs are passed on to you, the consumer, and interfere with your hormonal and immune systems.

We would like to invite you to join the journey with us.

We believed the benefits of pea protein were too great to limit it to our client base so we introduced the product to the market in 2012 and have had a wonderful response.
